Water is one of the most important resources for human survival, and it’s essential that we have access to clean and safe drinking water.
However, it’s not always easy to know what contaminants may be present in our water and how they could be affecting our health. Don’t worry – we can help you figure it out using your phone!
You can use your phone to visit www.ewg.com and put in your area code to gain access to a plethora of information on your local water quality reports (don’t worry they are broken down in a super easy to understand way!) where you will be able to easily find out what’s in your water, how much of it there is, what the possible risks to your health are and what you can do about it!
In this blog post, we’ll introduce you to a website that can help you access your local water report and share information about the contaminants that could be present in your water. We’ll also share some other options and resources to learn more about your specific water quality so you can ensure that the water in your home is safe for you and your loved ones!
The site you can use is the EWG’s National Tap Water Atlas – this is where you will gain access to local water quality reports and be able to really look at the possible health implications your water could be having on your health.
Now this is not meant to scare anyone, it is meant to empower you because here we believe knowledge is power and until you know something is a problem – you aren’t going to take action to fix it.
Also, by knowing what you are dealing with, you are more equipped to take the right action that will have the most impact on you, your health and the health of your loved ones!
Quick Disclaimer
A quick note on the EWG – it’s not the be-all, end-all. While the work they do is important and appreciated, and what they share is true, there are still many things that could be improved – their approach to titling and tone, the way their studies are shared, and an easier-to-understand user interface.
In sharing the EWG and their database as a resource, we intend for it to be used as a jumping-off point to help you get an idea of a baseline. Where does your water stand? What products might be better options for water filtration based on the specific contaminants in your water? It can also give you ideas of what to research.
Here is an example of a local water quality report from the EWG.
You can see the amount of contaminants that are over the limit and learn more about what the contaminants mean for you, your health and general risk level.
After your results, it will provide some recommendations on water filtration options that will help you filter out the contaminants in your area’s general water quality report.
Great! So should I buy what they recommend?
