THE STEPS WE TAKE TO MINIMIZING TOXINS
Our approach to minimizing toxins starts with assessing your specific situation and determining your short and long-term goals. Some people like to start with one category be it products, decor, design or building materials, some do a few categories, while others prefer to dive in all at once - there is no right or wrong option, just what is right for you! Working together we will zero in on what toxins we need to minimize most to help you best meet your goals!
After determining your goals and approach, we take inventory of what you currently are working with and which items we may want to consider replacing with a non or less-toxic option. By thoroughly assessing your belongings, you can make informed decisions about what to keep, what to replace, and what to discard, thereby creating a safer and healthier living environment for you and your family!
Next, we prioritize which items will make the biggest impact when swapped out. By focusing on these high-impact swaps, we not only make a significant difference in reducing toxin exposure, but also help you save money and prevent overwhelming changes all at once. Taking it step by step allows for a smoother transition towards a healthier home environment without feeling like you need to overhaul everything overnight.
After that, we move into the planning phase, where we carefully map out the process of swapping these products and determine a timeline that works best for you; financially, emotionally, mentally, physically etc. By having a well-thought-out plan, we aim to make the whole experience less overwhelming, less stressful and easier to implement and achieve. This will allow you to make these changes at your pace in a way that truly works best for you!
The next step is figuring out what your options are for the products that you plan to replace or change to a less toxic option. This step might seem overwhelming, but it can actually be easy and fun! We help you go through a variety of our favorite non or low toxic options and help you figure out which products will be best for you based on what you need it for and your budget - don't worry there are budget options in all ranges!
When it comes time, you can replace the item with the new option we chose. This is not meant to be all at once, this step of replacing / swapping is something you will do over time as you finish the old products and will just buy the low or non-toxic alternative instead of rebuying what you had. By following the plan we created, going slow and preparing with the list of alternatives, you will be able to easily make these changes!
Since we have now minimized toxin exposure in the products that you currently have, we now are going to make sure to prioritize using low or non-toxic products as we create the new design and introduce new products to your space. By carefully selecting low or non-toxic products, we will ensure that we are continuing to move forward in creating the low and non-toxic home sanctuary of your dreams!
Lastly, we make sure you feel educated and equipped enough to continue to make choices in your product and home design decisions that will continue to minimize the amount of toxins you and your family are exposed to, without us. We will be here with our free resources and our variety of services to help support you, but our goal is to make it so that you feel like you know enough and feel empowered and equipped enough to keep implementing these changes on your own as well.
After minimizing toxin exposure, we begin to turn your home into a place that not only prevents disease, but encourages health through optimizing the space for you! This means designing, decorating, and filling your home in a way that encourages healthy habits that support your short-term, long-term and generational health goals!
We look at ways we can optimize your home through the lens of various important elements of health such as: air, light, fitness, social health, sleep, mental health, nutrition, water, safety, spiritual health, temperature, noise, ergonomic health and more! It’s through these areas we explore ways we can optimize your home so that just by the way it is created it is supporting your health and making it easier for you to achieve your health goals.
Our approach to optimization is similar to how we begin minimizing toxins in that we start with assessing where you are at and what your short and long term health goals and habits are. We take time to figure out the obstacles standing between you and achieving your ideal healthy living lifestyle and try to address them through design and curation of your space.
For instance, if your goal is weight loss and healthier eating, we can optimize your kitchen by replacing food-promoting lighting with a light that reduces the desire to eat excessively. Additionally, we may incorporate more windows and use specific colors that naturally encourage mindful and healthier eating habits. Decorative non-toxic fruit bowls and health-promoting artwork can further facilitate healthy snacking. By swapping your kitchenware for smaller, color-enhanced, and non-toxic alternatives, we can support your goal of consuming less food.
No matter what your health goals are, there are so many evidence-based hacks like these that we can implement throughout your space to make it so your home is not just a place you live, but a true tool in helping you create the healthy life you want!

Through minimizing toxins and optimizing design we are able to maximize the health of those living in the home! To us, maximizing health means that we are not only preventing disease, but are creating a home that is encouraging and supporting you in your health goals!
Living in a house that is made to maximize health makes a difference short term, long term and even generationally.
In the short term, you’ll experience tangible improvements such as reduced allergies and a decreased frequency of illnesses. These benefits stem from eliminating toxic allergens like mold and dust, which we address during the toxin minimization phase. Additionally, optimized home environments can enhance focus, increase energy levels, and contribute to your overall health goals.
In the long term, these changes play a vital role in illness prevention and disease avoidance. They support your fitness journey, reduce stress levels, facilitate healthier eating habits, and positively impact your mental well-being. Furthermore, the healthy habits and practices established in your home have a generational impact.
Generationally, your choices today influence the health of your family for generations to come, both through leading by example and the genetic implications. Studies have shown that chemicals, stress, and diseases can affect how DNA is expressed. By prioritizing your health now, you are paving the way for the well-being of your future family members!

WHY MAKE THESE CHANGES
Creating a healthy home environment can improve sleep quality and reduce exposure to toxins, leading to increased energy levels and overall vitality. When you prioritize factors like comfortable bedding, a quiet sleep environment, and a clean living space, you promote restful sleep, which allows your body to recharge and enhance your energy levels!
Minimizing exposure to carcinogens and toxins commonly found in household products, building materials, and pesticides can lower the risk of developing cancer over the long term. By choosing natural and non-toxic alternatives you create a home environment that reduces the long-term risk of cancer.
Minimizing exposure to toxins and chemicals during pregnancy can help prevent birth defects. The developing fetus is particularly vulnerable to the effects of environmental toxins. By creating a healthy home environment free from harmful substances, such as lead, pesticides, and other chemicals, you can significantly reduce the risk of birth defects.
A healthy home with good indoor air quality, plants and natural lighting can enhance cognitive function, memory, and concentration in the short term. By reducing indoor pollutants and providing ample natural light, you create an environment that supports mental clarity and productivity. Fresh air, plants, and adequate sunlight have been linked to improved cognitive performance and a more positive mood!
A healthy home environment that promotes a nutritious diet, regular physical activity, and healthy lifestyle habits can contribute to a reduced risk of obesity in the long term. By providing access to fresh and wholesome foods, limiting sugary beverages and processed snacks, and encouraging physical activity, you establish habits that support healthy weight management and long-term metabolic health.
Healthier child growth and development is a key generational benefit of creating a healthy home environment. By prioritizing elements such as good nutrition, clean air, and safe surroundings, you provide the ideal conditions for children to thrive. A healthy home promotes optimal physical, cognitive, and emotional development in children, laying a solid foundation for their long-term health and well-being.
Living in a clean, organized, and toxin-free space can contribute to improved mental health, reduced stress, and increased happiness. Clutter and disorganization can lead to feelings of overwhelm and anxiety, while a tidy home promotes a sense of calm and tranquility. Additionally, reducing exposure to chemicals and toxins can support a healthier mind and emotional well-being.
Creating a healthy home environment can help reduce the long-term risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. By minimizing exposure to toxins, promoting a healthy diet, lots of sleep, and encouraging physical activity, you establish habits and conditions that support long-term disease prevention and overall health.
When a healthy home environment is established, it creates a foundation for healthier habits, nutrition, and lifestyle choices that are passed down from one generation to the next. This can result in reduced risks of chronic diseases, better immune function, improved mental health, and enhanced overall vitality. The generational health benefits create a ripple effect, where the well-being of current and future family members is positively influenced.
A healthy home brings together the various short-term benefits, such as better sleep, reduced stress, and improved well-being, into a powerful source of overall satisfaction and happiness. The combined impact of these positive changes nurtures a deep sense of satisfaction and happiness, contributing to your overall well-being and quality of life.
Minimizing exposure to harmful chemicals, toxins, and allergens in the home environment can strengthen the immune system, leading to a lower risk of infections, autoimmune conditions, and allergies in the long run. By opting for natural and non-toxic alternatives, improving indoor air quality, and maintaining a clean and hygienic home, you create an environment that supports immune system health and reduces the long-term risk of immune-related disorders.
When a home is intentionally designed to prioritize health, it fosters an environment where family members come together to support and encourage each other's wellness journeys. This sense of togetherness and shared commitment to well-being becomes a cherished part of family identity that is passed down through the generations.

WHY THE NATURE VIDEOS ON AN INTERIOR DESIGN SITE?
At Health & Home, we’re all about creating a healthy home by minimizing toxins and optimizing the design to maximize your health! And you know what? The easiest way to do that is to look to nature! Research has shown time and time again that using more natural and non-toxic products as well as incorporating elements of nature into our spaces, can both have a really positive impact on your overall health & wellness!
Now, don’t worry – you don’t have to turn your family room into a forest to get those benefits! Actually, you don’t have to change your aesthetic at all if you don’t want to! No matter what your personal style may be, we can work with you to create an environment that supports your health and wellness goals. We do this by looking at nature for things like colors, textures, and sounds to determine how they can positively or negatively impact your well-being based on the latest research, and then we use that information to create a space that’s just right for you & what you want from your space!
So why are there these videos at the top of the pages? Well, we put these here to help set the tone for the page and give you a taste of how exposure to elements of nature can impact your mood, your perception, and even your physical health! Below you will find an in-depth explanation as to why we chose the video we did for the page you are on and the research that we used to decide on that. Our hope is that this can help you see how you can intentionally take this kind of research and apply it to the design of your home so you can naturally get all the amazing benefits AND have a beautiful home at the same time!
ON THIS PAGE:
HOW DID THIS PAGE MAKE YOU FEEL?
HOW DID THIS PAGE MAKE YOU FEEL?
We wanted you to feel calm, comfortable, inspired and at ease as you look through the ways that we can work together. The video chosen for our Our Services page perfectly captures the essence of the calming and tranquil experience we hope to give you when working together on a project or goal. The video features a serene lake with crystal-clear, sparkling blue water, surrounded by lush green plants and vibrant purple flowers. This imagery immediately evokes a sense of peace, tranquility, and natural beauty, setting the tone for the services we offer at Health & Home. Our goal is to alleviate the overwhelming feeling that can often accompany the process of creating a healthy home, and instead, create a soothing and supportive environment where you can feel at ease.
Research has consistently shown the positive effects of incorporating elements of nature into our living spaces. According to a study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, exposure to blue environments, such as clean blue water, has been found to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and evoke a sense of tranquility. The color blue has been associated with physiological calming effects, including lowering heart rate and blood pressure. Additionally, a study published in the journal PLoS ONE found that exposure to nature, including greenery and flowers, can have positive psychological and physiological impacts. The color green, symbolizing nature and renewal, has been shown to enhance mood, reduce anxiety, and improve cognitive performance. The presence of purple flowers, as suggested by research published in the Journal of Environmental Horticulture, can create a sense of spirituality, creativity, and emotional well-being.
To incorporate these elements into interior design, consider adding green in the form of plants or decor to your home or workspace to create a refreshing and calming atmosphere. You can introduce touches of purple through other decorative elements, (but don’t use too much) to infuse a sense of tranquility and inspiration. And be sure to make space for water features or crystal elements to bring a serene and cleansing energy to your environment. By embracing the calming colors and elements, you can create a truly calming, relaxing, and soothing space.
