Let's Break Down Our Approach

Let's Break Down Our Approach

Minimize Toxins

At Health & Home, we understand the significant impact that toxins can have on your health and we want to help you minimize the amount you and your family are exposed to in a simple, straightforward, evidence-based, non-wasteful, and affordable way!

We know, you hear “minimizing toxins” and it might sound overwhelming at first, and you might be tempted to skip ahead to the more exciting steps, like optimizing your home so you can meet your goals because that sounds easier and more fun! But this step is truly foundational for creating a truly healthy home.

We also know there’s a ton of noise out there about toxins, especially on social media and in the news. It can be confusing, scary, and make you wonder what’s actually good or bad – paralyzing you from moving forward or even wanting to look into the issue. That’s why we do all that work for you and are here to just help you implement what is best for you! We do this by relying on solid scientific research to guide us in providing you with the best products and advice to help you reach your health goals!

We want to help you create a genuinely healthy home in a way that feels empowering, easy, and affordable. Which is why when you work with us, you’ll find we’re all about meeting you where you’re at, understanding your unique needs and goals, and devising a customized plan that works for you.

THE STEPS WE TAKE TO MINIMIZING TOXINS

Optimize Design

After minimizing toxin exposure, we begin to turn your home into a place that not only prevents disease, but encourages health through optimizing the space for you! This means designing, decorating, and filling your home in a way that encourages healthy habits that support your short-term, long-term and generational health goals!

We look at ways we can optimize your home through the lens of various important elements of health such as: air, light, fitness, social health, sleep, mental health, nutrition, water, safety, spiritual health, temperature, noise, ergonomic health and more! It’s through these areas we explore ways we can optimize your home so that just by the way it is created it is supporting your health and making it easier for you to achieve your health goals.

Our approach to optimization is similar to how we begin minimizing toxins in that we start with assessing where you are at and what your short and long term health goals and habits are. We take time to figure out the obstacles standing between you and achieving your ideal healthy living lifestyle and try to address them through design and curation of your space.

For instance, if your goal is weight loss and healthier eating, we can optimize your kitchen by replacing food-promoting lighting with a light that reduces the desire to eat excessively. Additionally, we may incorporate more windows and use specific colors that naturally encourage mindful and healthier eating habits. Decorative non-toxic fruit bowls and health-promoting artwork can further facilitate healthy snacking. By swapping your kitchenware for smaller, color-enhanced, and non-toxic alternatives, we can support your goal of consuming less food.

No matter what your health goals are, there are so many evidence-based hacks like these that we can implement throughout your space to make it so your home is not just a place you live, but a true tool in helping you create the healthy life you want!

SOME AREAS WE CONSIDER WHEN OPTIMIZING DESIGN

Maximize Health

Through minimizing toxins and optimizing design we are able to maximize the health of those living in the home! To us, maximizing health means that we are not only preventing disease, but are creating a home that is encouraging and supporting you in your health goals!

Living in a house that is made to maximize health makes a difference short term, long term and even generationally.

In the short term, you’ll experience tangible improvements such as reduced allergies and a decreased frequency of illnesses. These benefits stem from eliminating toxic allergens like mold and dust, which we address during the toxin minimization phase. Additionally, optimized home environments can enhance focus, increase energy levels, and contribute to your overall health goals.

In the long term, these changes play a vital role in illness prevention and disease avoidance. They support your fitness journey, reduce stress levels, facilitate healthier eating habits, and positively impact your mental well-being. Furthermore, the healthy habits and practices established in your home have a generational impact.

Generationally, your choices today influence the health of your family for generations to come, both through leading by example and the genetic implications. Studies have shown that chemicals, stress, and diseases can affect how DNA is expressed. By prioritizing your health now, you are paving the way for the well-being of your future family members!

WHY THE NATURE VIDEOS ON AN INTERIOR DESIGN SITE?

At Health & Home, we’re all about creating a healthy home by minimizing toxins and optimizing the design to maximize your health! And you know what? The easiest way to do that is to look to nature! Research has shown time and time again that using more natural and non-toxic products as well as incorporating elements of nature into our spaces, can both have a really positive impact on your overall health & wellness!

Now, don’t worry – you don’t have to turn your family room into a forest to get those benefits! Actually, you don’t have to change your aesthetic at all if you don’t want to! No matter what your personal style may be, we can work with you to create an environment that supports your health and wellness goals. We do this by looking at nature for things like colors, textures, and sounds to determine how they can positively or negatively impact your well-being based on the latest research, and then we use that information to create a space that’s just right for you & what you want from your space!

So why are there these videos at the top of the pages? Well, we put these here to help set the tone for the page and give you a taste of how exposure to elements of nature can impact your mood, your perception, and even your physical health! Below you will find an in-depth explanation as to why we chose the video we did for the page you are on and the research that we used to decide on that. Our hope is that this can help you see how you can intentionally take this kind of research and apply it to the design of your home so you can naturally get all the amazing benefits AND have a beautiful home at the same time!

HOW DID THIS PAGE MAKE YOU FEEL?

HOW DID THIS PAGE MAKE YOU FEEL?

We wanted you to feel calm, comfortable, inspired and at ease as you look through the ways that we can work together. The video chosen for our Our Services page perfectly captures the essence of the calming and tranquil experience we hope to give you when working together on a project or goal. The video features a serene lake with crystal-clear, sparkling blue water, surrounded by lush green plants and vibrant purple flowers. This imagery immediately evokes a sense of peace, tranquility, and natural beauty, setting the tone for the services we offer at Health & Home. Our goal is to alleviate the overwhelming feeling that can often accompany the process of creating a healthy home, and instead, create a soothing and supportive environment where you can feel at ease.

Research has consistently shown the positive effects of incorporating elements of nature into our living spaces. According to a study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, exposure to blue environments, such as clean blue water, has been found to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and evoke a sense of tranquility. The color blue has been associated with physiological calming effects, including lowering heart rate and blood pressure. Additionally, a study published in the journal PLoS ONE found that exposure to nature, including greenery and flowers, can have positive psychological and physiological impacts. The color green, symbolizing nature and renewal, has been shown to enhance mood, reduce anxiety, and improve cognitive performance. The presence of purple flowers, as suggested by research published in the Journal of Environmental Horticulture, can create a sense of spirituality, creativity, and emotional well-being.

To incorporate these elements into interior design, consider adding green in the form of plants or decor to your home or workspace to create a refreshing and calming atmosphere. You can introduce touches of purple through other decorative elements, (but don’t use too much) to infuse a sense of tranquility and inspiration. And be sure to make space for water features or crystal elements to bring a serene and cleansing energy to your environment. By embracing the calming colors and elements, you can create a truly calming, relaxing, and soothing space.
